ACTIVITIES OF WU FANGJI RESEARCH SOCIETIES IN DIFFERENT CITIES

1.   Chongqing University Research Society

The Chongqing University Wu Fangji Research Society was established in 2011 in memory the great poet and the founder of the university, and also for the further study of his poetry.

May 9, 2012, was the 80^th anniversary of the death of the White Cottage Poet Wu Fangji. A meeting was held that morning in Chongqing University in memory of the poet. With great reverence, the members recalled the hard life of the poet, his outstanding contributions to the establishment of the university and expressed their deep nostalgia for the poet Wu Fangji.

On the afternoon of July 1, 2016, a meeting was held in the Main Teaching Building of the university, tens of people attended the meeting, including professors, students as well as the members of the Research Society. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Li Xuejing, the Minister of the Propaganda Department, and Mr. Xiao Tieyan, the Deputy Party Secretary of the university, attended the meeting and made a speech.

On November 20, 2016, the members of the Chongqing University Wu Fangji Research Society was invited by the Jukui Middle School and went there to have a meeting together with the members of the Jiangjin Wu Fangji Research Society. At the meeting the members of the two societies exchanged their books and magazines, and their research experience and results.

2.  Chengdu Wu Fangji Research Society

Chengdu Wu Fangji Research Society was established in December 1996 in the city proper of Chengdu. The purpose of the society is to study Wu’s poetry and exchange skills and experience in poetry creation among the scholars.

In early 2006, Chengdu Wu Fangji Research Society decided to make a statue of the poet Wu Fangji and then set the statue on the Qingcheng Mountain. In June 2014, the society decided to move the statue to the campus of the Sichuan University.

In January 2010, the Chengdu Research Society published a book titled: the Research of Wu Fangji with 760 thousand Chinese characters and 475 pages.

In June 2017, the Chengdu Research Society published a book titled: The Poetry Style of the White Cottage Poet in memory of the 120 anniversary of the birth of the poet.

The Chengdu Wu Fangji Research Society published a journal in 1996, with the title of Poetry Style of White Cottage, and since then the journal is published regularly every year. The content of the journal is about review and ideas, comments and research results of Wu’s poetry.

3.  Jiangjin Wu Fangji Research Society

Jiangjin Wu Fangji Research Society was established on December 2, 2009, and located at the city proper.

In August 2011, Jiangjin Middle School officially applied for and joined the Jiangjin Wu Yuanji Research Society. In September Jukui Middle School also joined the Society, which further expanded its scale and increased its strength.

On October 18, 2019, Jiangjin Wu Fangji Research Society held a meeting on the 10^th anniversary of the founding of the Society. The meeting reviewed Wu Fangji’s life, summarized the achievements of the Society over the past 10 years, and elected some leading members of the Society.

The Jiangjin Wu Fangji Research Society has published a journal titled Fangjichun (Fangji spring) in memory of the poet since 2009. The journal is published every six months.

It is commonly agreed that Wu Fangji was an explorer and innovator of the New Cultural Movement, an outstanding poet, writer and educator. Mr. Wu Fangji has been rated as “100 Historical and Cultural Celebrities in Chongqing” and “Top Ten Historical and Cultural Celebrities in Jiangjin”. He left behind him more than 600 excellent poems in his life, and “A Poem to Wanrong” was collected in the primary and middle school textbooks in the 1920s to 1940s in China.
